Sonar Baran Pakhi | Assamese film making it large globally
It is indeed a great time for Assamese film lovers to be in as the Industry in recent times has been blessed with several masterpieces. One among them is Sonar Baran Pakhi, which has brought accolades to the state. The film won the Grand Jury Prize (Best Feature) at the IFFLA (Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles) 2017 and the Best Audience Award at the 15th Dhaka International Film Festival, 2017.
Directed by Bobby Sarma Baruah, whose first venture “Adomya” was awarded the Best Film in Spiritual Category, Sonar Baran Pakhi is a biopic based on the life of legendary Goalparia Folk Singer Padmashree Pratima Baruah Pandey. The film depicts how Pratima Baruah Pandey mingled with exponents of Goalparia folk songs to master the art, shunning royal comforts. The film is a journey of Pratima’s life starting from her childhood, when she was mesmerised by the tale of Hastir Kanya, the time when Dr Bhupen Hazarika visited their place and her subsequent singing in Dr Hazarika’s debut film and also in All India Radio. The movie also shows her married life, the solace she finds in singing and her bond with the performing team.

Cast of the film includes Pranami Borah, Arati Barua and Pranjal Saikia among others.
